Sheila’s weekly update 17 Feb 23: Elephants! and not just in the room . . .
How many little things do we just pass by without a second glance? Too many I suspect. I spotted a little elephant on one of my walks – didn’t think too much about it until this week. I took a closer look, so many ways to read its presence in the landscape. Protector? Symbol of wisdom of one passed, a light in the dark? I’m exploring ways to convey some of that in my work. I have been really inspired by the group crit sessions in the personal practice course I’m doing with Contemporary Art Academy this week. It’s really helping me make sense of what I am doing and…

Stories from the exhibition
Whilst the rest of the art worlds attention was focused on Venice and its Biennale, in a small part of the West End of Glasgow there was another smaller scale but to me just as huge event. I finally did it! I had my own solo exhibition at Nicolls Gallery. What an experience! I’m still recovering and reflecting on it all. I know I normally do video updates here, but as part of my reflections I felt I actually wanted to write a short post and share some of the digital resources I created for the exhibition. When I booked the space I didn’t quite know exactly what I was…

Sheila’s weekly update 68: Lost in a trance . . .
This week I share progress on the work I shared last week. I’ve been spending lots of happy, trance like hours tearing paper and glueing paper onto paper building layers of patterns and textures. Ideas are still evolving in my head as to what final pieces will be, but I do have some ideas and have been doing some more experimentation. Watch to find out more.

Sheila’s weekly update 65: Forbidden art
This week I’ve been busy with lots of non art “stuff” , but I did really enjoy watching Forbidden Art. A great new programme with Mary Beards exploring our attitudes to art and what is “acceptable” for public and private viewing. It really made me think about why I find acceptable and why, and also about my own subject choices. Should I be a bit more challenging?

Sheila’s weekly update 52: the power of dreams
This week is all about dreams! Not my dreams specifically, this week I share a little story about someone else’s dream that involved me and and endless stream of not the right painting. In real life this dream has had a happy ending with one of my paintings heading off to a new home in The Netherlands.
