Sheila’s weekly update 15 April 2023: Being thankful . . .
This week I’m talking about community and the importance of community to artists. Early this week I attended a talk host by @Contemporary Art Academy by Matthew Burrows. It was such a generous and informative session. Matthew stared the #artistssupportpledge during the first lockdown. It’s such a great example of the power of community. Over the past few years I have been working at building my artist community. I feel so lucky for all the people I have met and who are part of my network. Too many people to mention but you know who you are. Your support, presence and work inspire me everyday. Thank you all.

All about the otters. . .
It’s been a bit of a busy week with “non art” stuff as I have been in Inverness at a conference. It was great to catch up with some many people but it was quite tiring too. Anyway, today has been more of serendipitous back to nature and back to art kind of a day . . . I’ve also signed up for the ArtQuest 30 days 30 works challenge. Basically you are sent a challenge everyday and have to create and share a piece of work every day of the month. You can see my contributions here. Hopefully I can make it to the end of the month! I…

A productive residency week at Cove Park
A bit late posting this, but I had another amazing week at Cove Park. It was so lovely to be back in that special place. This year I was a bit more focused on work than last year, and make good progress on 2 works. I also had a little open studio for the other residents which gave me the opportunity to share and curate some work I brought with me and get an idea of how they all fitted together. You can watch a little montage of my week here. And here’s a little video of my mini open studio presentation.

Sheila’s weekly update 10 March 2023: A bit of a challenge . . .
This week I’m sharing a challenge with you. If you had to choose one image by an artist in the 21st century what would it be? This is something I have to do as part of next block of personal practice course I’m now participating on. We have to contextualize our work within the wider art world, and consider our personal context. Quite a challenge . . . As part of my preparation I’ve started to make a little play list of of artists who influence me to help me with this challenge. Here’s a little taster . . .

Exhibition update
This week’s update is all about exhibitions. Firstly the fabulous 100 x 100 online exhibition curated and hosted by Bobcat Gallery. I’m thrilled to be included in this collection again. It runs for all of March so do check it out next time you are online. I also spent a wonderful morning this week at the Love of Print show celebrating 50 years of the Glasgow Print Studio at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. What a wonderful, uplifting, inspiring show. Open until the 12th of the month so do check it out if you can.

It was really motivating to get such generous and useful feedback from my peer group. I am soo learning and sharing with fellow artists. I am doing a lot of prep work for some new work, but did find time to do some more canal drawings. Watch to find out more.
