Sheila’s weekly update 17 September: Doors Open Festival
So this week has been taken up preparing for the Glasgow Doors Open Festival. As well as doing an artist talk yesterday in my studio space – watch to find out more about that! I also had a piece in the Saltspace members show. The final day of the festival is tomorrow and I’ll be in the studio again which is open from 11am – 2pm to the public. Do let me know if you want to come along, I’ll be working there all day.

Doors Open Festival: Join me for an artist talk 16 September
As part of the Glasgow Doors Open Festival the @saltspace studios are once again open to the public. So this Saturday (16th September, 2- 3pm) I am giving an informal talk about my work, where I find inspiration and some of the processes I use and of course answer any questions about my practice. Would love it if you could come and join me at our Dornoch Street Studios (30 Dornoch St, G40 2QT).

Sheila’s weekly update 2 September: opening times!
This week has been pretty busy in the “other side” of my working life so I haven’t managed to get into the studio. However being able to get to two show openings featured my work has brought some much needed balance to the week. I am delighted to have one of my paintings of the Claypits in the “What do people think of Glasgow” exhibition at the Six Foot Gallery in Glasgow, and to have 2 pieces in The Big Art show, at the Art Department in Paisley. This is a seriously big exhibition with an amazing range of work on show. Luckily it’s on until November so lots of…

Sheila’s weekly update 20 August: A bit of fesitival-ing
I had a wee day out at the Edinburgh Festival this week checking out some of the art on show. The “big one” this year is the Grayson Perry “Smash Hits” at the National Gallery. It’s his first retrospective and it’s big – in every sense of the word. Big tapestries, big use of colour, big ideas. It was also very busy so I must go back and explore it in more detail. However, if you do go – make sure you head downstairs to the Elizabeth Blackadder and John Houston show in the lower galleries. A different scale to the “big show” upstairs, but quietly wonderful. I also spent…

Sheila’s weekly update 12 August: it’s all about community
This week it was great to have some time in the studio ecoprinting on paper. A lovely chat with master printer Elisabeth Culshaw helped too! This week I’m also really thankful for the wonderful community I have found through the courses I’ve been doing with the Contemporary Art Academy this year – so wonderful to share the highs and lows of artistic life with you all – you know who you are!

Sheila’s weekly update 5th August: new starts and new moons . . .
I’m back with my weekly updates after a couple of weeks away on holiday. It was great to get back into the studio this week. There was also a super-moon this week which apparently is a very auspicious time to start new projects so hopefully that will work for me! I also share some tile making adventures . . . watch to find out more.

The magic of eco-printing
Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been making new dyes, thinking about the environment, printing and having amazing wildlife encounters. Watch to find out more about my lovely day of eco-printing this week.

Sheila’s weekly update, 17 June: a bit of cut and run . . .
This week I share some reflections on the new Banksy exhibition, Cut and Run, currently on at GOMA. It’s quite a show, and worth getting along to. It also has very long opening hours so you don’t have to see it within normal gallery opening hours. As well as giving an insight into his work, the staging of the exhibition also creates interesting dialog around the control of imagery. I found it thought provoking, funny and poignant. Definitly worth checking out.

Contiguous: a narrated walk through the exhibition
I can’t believe it’s already been a week since my solo exhibition, Contiguous. It was lovely to see so many people in person at my solo exhibition last week. I know many of you couldn’t make it to Glasgow in person, so here is a little tour of the exhibition with me giving some insight into the work. If you are interested in any of the work, then do let me know as some of it is still available for you to own.
