A new way to share
I really enjoy share these little video updates with you here, but as you’ll know I’ve not been as regular with them this year. One of the reasons I started doing the video updates is that it was a change from the “other side” of my working life where I do a lot of writing and blogging. I wanted to have a bit of separation, but now I’m starting to re-think that approach, I think I do need to write a bit more about my art practice. So I’ve set up a new substack account to manage my email list, and to share some different ways of sharing my practice.…

Sheila’s (almost ) weekly update, 22 May
Amateur? professional? what’s the difference. I’ve been thinking about this after reading a little story from Elif Shafak, one of my favourite writers, where she shared how she was once told she would never be more than an “amateur” writer, as she wasn’t dedicating all her time to writing. What a lofty (male) perspective, not understanding how some of us need to do other things to support our practice. Anyway watch to hear more about what it made me think about.

And we’re back
It’s been a while since I did an update. No excuses, I just got out of the habit, which is all too easy. However, this bank holiday I’m back in the studio and back sharing. Life has got in the way a bit over the past couple of months, but I’m hoping to get back into the sharing habit again. Watch to find out more.

Limited edition prints now available
This week I’m sharing a bit more about my latest limited edition print, and why I enjoy the process I use to create the prints. The prints are made through a transfer process from a print of one of my photographs, onto recycled Khadi paper. As the Khadi paper is hand made it has a lovely slightly, rougher texture than say cartridge paper. The process also creates a quality that distorts time. I think that they have a vintage 1970/80’s photograph colour quality. I quite like that messing with time as it makes you look at the image in a different way. The transfer process itself also means that each…

Sheila’s weekly update 4 February: and the winner is . . .
As a little January pick me up, I ran one of my occasional art give- aways and at the end of January I was pleased to share that Sarah Knight was the winner. I’m sure that the painting will be very happy in its new home. I can hardly believe that it is February, but at the same time I am glad that January is over and the days are getting longer, and spring is starting to appear. I’ve found this January a bit hard to find focus on my work, so hoping that this month might be a bit more productive.

A reflective start to the year
It’s Tuesday – time for a wee update. . . been sorting and contemplating on what I might do in 2024 . . Reflecting on 2023 I did quite a lot – a lot more exhibiting that I expected which was great; the PG courses with Contemporary Art Academy which really brought a new focus and understanding to my practice and the SSA mentoring programme, which really helped me focus and build good habits. Both experiences allowed me to connect with some really supportive and talented artists. Now I think I need to take a bit of time in January to take stock and start planning for this year. Hopefully…
