After seeing examples of Sheila’s vibrant and imaginative work online, I just knew Sheila would have something perfect for the upcoming birthday for an art-loving teenager at home. After approaching Sheila about this, she very generously took the time to ask about the kinds of art, visuals and colours that my daughter likes, and to take me through several of her pieces that she thought may be particularly suitable. All were stunning. My daughter loved the one that I chose, and it came beautifully wrapped. A few months later, when I started to think about something original to gift for a significant anniversary, I went to straight to Sheila to seek her advice on a potential commission for a painting of a particular building. Once again Sheila gave generously of her time to talk through possible options, and to ask the important questions I wouldn’t have thought of myself. We decided on an approach and general style for the piece, and working from a couple of images I was able to find – and the broad theme of ‘summer’ – Sheila produced an absolutely beautiful painting which was everything I hoped for, and which made for an absolutely perfect one-of-a-kind gift. I couldn’t have been happier. I was also extremely impressed with how Sheila provided updates of her initial sketch ideas and of the painting itself as it was in progress. I was also very happy and impressed with how Sheila handled the selection of an appropriate frame, and the safe delivery of the painting from Glasgow to my wee corner of the Highlands. After seeing Sheila’s work online I commissioned a piece from her. She took the time to have a very thorough zoom call with me to capture all my thoughts and ideas about how I wanted the piece to look. Throughout the process I was sent updates of the piece’s progress, and then there was the grand reveal before it was carefully wrapped and dispatched to me. Sheila’s dramatic beachscape with the sun emerging from behind some thunderous clouds instantly appealed to me. It reminded me of a favourite machair beach I’d visited over many years in the Western Isles, and every time I look at it, it brings me joy. Sheila’s spring beach was a lovely contrast to the piece I had previously bought. With calming shades of blue sea and sky and restful sands, I find it inspiring and optimisic. It always cheers me! I purchased two pieces from Sheila’s ‘Fragments of the Canal’ series last year because I love how evocative they are of the natural colours of the canal enhanced by gentle sparkles of light. They cleverly reflect the times we’re in, with subtle references to coronavirus shapes amongst the water lily leaves. So creative and thoughtful – I’m delighted with them! I am really pleased with my ‘Winter’ picture from Sheila’s ‘Seasons’ series. I was originally drawn to the colourful ‘Spring’ or ‘Summer’ ones but they were sold out at the time. So I went for the winter theme and I am glad I did. The picture reflects the cool calm colours of a bright winter’s day. It has been on my office wall since I bought it and I look at it every day before I switch on my computer. I find that it has a soothing influence on me and puts me in the right mood for the day.
