Sheila’s weekly update 40: pop ups and milestones
This week I reached a bit of a milestone on Instagram, 500 followers! I also share a bit about how I divide up my time as an artist, it’s not all painting! I also had a enjoyed a bit of unexpected bit of opera in the park.

Sheila’s weekly update 39: halfway through …
This is a very short update as it’s been a bit of a busy week, and it was the summer solstice! Bit about reflecting on that and other nonsense this week.

Sheila’s weekly update 37: unveilings and framings
This week has been another week of “other” work, however I can finally reveal more about the secret commission I’ve mentioned in the past few weeks. It’s in its new home and has been a wonderful surprise anniversary present. I also got another sold painting back from the framers and I’m really pleased with how that frame has anchored the image. Watch to find out more

Sheila’s weekly update 36: Drifting. . .
This week I’ve been doing a lot of “other” work and not so much painting. However, I have become intrigued by psychogeography – that is the exploration of environments through drifting, exploring without a plan. You can get a quick overview here. I need to learn more about this, but I do feel over the past year I have been drifting quite a lot in my daily walks, but more importantly in some of my work. I never really know at times where I’m going or how I will get there but the process and freedom that gives me is endlessly rewarding.

Sheila’s weekly update 35: getting away from it all?
This week has been a good week. I finished a commission and took it to the framers, the client is happy with the work, and I unexpectedly sold another work from an Instagram post. I also took part in a virtual tour of Cove Park organised by the CEC. It was so inspiring to see the Park and hear the it vision for the future. I loved the idea and potential from entanglements of artists, scientists and academics that they are working towards. It’s also not that far away from me, but actually I think going there would be like going to a different world. I am really considering self…

Sheila’s weekly update 34: At work after finding inspiration in the most unlikely place
This week has been a bit up and down for me, but I found inspiration in the most unlikely of places – from chalk dust at the bottom of an easel. In this update I share more about that, the works it has inspired, and some of the methods and tools I am using. I also reflect on Joan Eardley’s centenary. There are lots of online exhibitions about her life and work that you can explore too.

Sheila’s weekly update 33: NP emerging artists programme and mental health awareness week
This week I am mindful that it is #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek. I’ve been sharing some posts on instagram this week based on that. This year’s theme is nature, which is central to my work and my physical and mental well being. Particularly during lock down where I gained much richer connection with my immediate environment which really helped me creatively and personally. This week I’m delighted to share that I have been selected to be part of the NewPlatform Art professional development programme for emerging artists. I am part of a group of 50 artists who will get professional mentoring over the next year to help us develop sustainable practice. I’m so…

Sheila’s weekly update 32: the power of our own stories and journeys
This week I’m struggling not being able to share some work in progress on social media, but more importantly I’m reflecting on the get to know the artist series Instagram Live series I’ve been part of. It’s been so interesting to get to know other artists better and find out about their stories, their backgrounds, challenges and inspirations. It’s really made me reflect on my own journey, my struggles and why I am doing what I do.

Sheila’s weekly update 32: Back to life . . .
This week I share some thoughts about being back in the life drawing studio. It was so lovely to be back in the studio, not viewing through zoom, this week. I need that connection with a life (live) model. I’ve also be exploring the Story of Scottish Art by Lauchlin Gaudie. I remember enjoying the TV series but I’m also enjoying the book too. Worth checking out.
