Sheila’s weekly update 10 March 2023: A bit of a challenge . . .
This week I’m sharing a challenge with you. If you had to choose one image by an artist in the 21st century what would it be? This is something I have to do as part of next block of personal practice course I’m now participating on. We have to contextualize our work within the wider art world, and consider our personal context. Quite a challenge . . . As part of my preparation I’ve started to make a little play list of of artists who influence me to help me with this challenge. Here’s a little taster . . .

Sheila’s weekly update 23 Feb, 2023: living landscapes
This week I’ve been immersed in research and thinking about my approach to work. I really enjoyed the group crit session in my personal practice course. It was really motivating to get such generous and useful feedback from my peer group. I am soo learning and sharing with fellow artists. I am doing a lot of prep work for some new work, but did find time to do some more canal drawings. Watch to find out more.

Sheila’s weekly update 79: Stacking and sorting
My life drawing class is now on its summer break. I tend not to take my drawings home and leave them in the studio. Luckily Ewen, the tutor, is very understanding and has a “Sheila shelf”! Today I collected them and there were quite a lot! So over the next week or so I’m going to sort them out, reflect on them through looking at them with fresh eyes and hopefully learn and figure out what and where I want to go next with my drawing. Sometimes to go forward you have to go back for a while.

Sheila’s weekly update 77: The invisible and invisible
As I settle into my new studio space, this week I’m reflecting on a visit to a really thought provoking exhibition called Invisible Women, and a recent visit to the newly refurbished Burrell Collection. So many stories and people remain invisible . . .

Sheila’s weekly update 74: I’m back
So after a couple of weeks down time after my solo exhibition, I’m back! The exhibition was amazing but tiring. But I’m now refreshed and back sharing a wee update about where I’ve been and where I’m going. Excited about a move to a new studio space and plans for new work.

Sheila’s weekly update 68: Lost in a trance . . .
This week I share progress on the work I shared last week. I’ve been spending lots of happy, trance like hours tearing paper and glueing paper onto paper building layers of patterns and textures. Ideas are still evolving in my head as to what final pieces will be, but I do have some ideas and have been doing some more experimentation. Watch to find out more.

Sheila’s weekly update 65: Forbidden art
This week I’ve been busy with lots of non art “stuff” , but I did really enjoy watching Forbidden Art. A great new programme with Mary Beards exploring our attitudes to art and what is “acceptable” for public and private viewing. It really made me think about why I find acceptable and why, and also about my own subject choices. Should I be a bit more challenging?

Sheila’s weekly update 41: Dialogues and conversations
After a couple of weeks “off camera” I’m back with my weekly updates. This week I share some of what I’ve been up to over the past couple of weeks, including the thinking and planning side of being an artist. Would love to hear your thoughts on what I’ve been sharing too, so we can extend the conversation.
